Manor Park Golf Sanctuary was the first club in New Zealand to be awarded the “Junior Plus” national award for recognition of an outstanding Junior Golf Programme.
Junior Coaching Structure - Manor Park implemented the “Junior First” programme with a coaching structure run by the resident golf professional (Dean Kingsbeer) which is supported by volunteer coaches and assistants. Juniors wanting to be part of the coaching programme are assessed by the coach to determine what level of coaching they need depending on their ability and skill level.
Level 1 - this level is aimed at new entrants joining the club, and is mainly for primary school children aged 6-12 years. This is run for an 18 week period between early October and the end of March each year with a 6 week break for the Christmas/Summer period. Registration Day is held in September and following the initial assessment groups of 6-8 are streamed based on their skill and experience.
Level 2 - This is for juniors progressing from Level 1, and is primarily for juniors at secondary school with or without an official club handicap.
Level 3 - This level is for juniors with official handicaps under 20, or for players at Junior Pennants, Watt Cup or Senior Interclub level.
Skills Training & Playing Golf - The Junior Coaching Programme is a combinations of skills training and playing golf. There are also two competitions that are part of the programme so that juniors can have exposure to competitive golf.
Older Aged Juniors - For juniors in the older age group (12-19 years), there are many opportunities to be involved in senior interclub, and at all levels there are many club competitions for juniors to participate in. There is also the Frank Instone Cup which id specifically for juniors and is an aggregate competition over several months. All juniors must be a financial member of the club, irrespective of their age and experience.
Interclub Competition - Our Junior Pennants team competes in a Stableford format and comprises four players per team with three out of the four scores counting towards a team total.
Representative Level - Manor Park has a long and proud record with a number of its juniors having represented the club at both provincial and international levels, these players include Michael Campbell, Stephan Scahill, Gareth Paddison, Bradley Iles, Matt Holten, Aaron Leech and Perry Hayman, and in more recent times Julianne Alvarez and Daniel Hillier.
